Low-slope roof edge · Sherman & DFW

ES-1 edge metal, coping & gravel stop.

Coping, fascia, gravel stop, and drip edge for commercial low-slope roofs — fabricated to ES-1 tested details in 24 ga and any color on our chart.

Fortified Metals fabricates low-slope roof edge metal — coping, two-piece fascia, gravel stop, and continuous cleats — to match ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 tested designs, with documentation for your submittal.

Explained

What ES-1 means.

The roof edge is where wind uplift starts. If the edge metal lets go, the wind gets under the membrane and can peel back the roof.

ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 is the test standard for low-slope roof edge systems. It puts the edge metal, cleat, and fasteners through pull tests to prove they hold against the design wind pressure. The International Building Code references it for edge securement on most low-slope roofs.

A tested edge is a system. The profile, the gauge, the cleat, and the fastener type and spacing all have to match the tested design. That's why we build to the detail, not just the shape.

Edge profiles

What we fabricate.

For TPO, PVC, EPDM, mod bit, built-up, and metal roofs. Standard profiles or built to your architect's detail.

  • CopingParapet wall coping with continuous cleats, splice plates, sloped tops, and mitered corners
  • Two-piece fasciaSnap-on fascia covers over a continuous cleat and base
  • Gravel stopRaised-lip gravel stop and edge for built-up, mod bit, and single-ply
  • Drip edgeStandard and extended-face drip edge
  • CleatsContinuous cleats in the gauge the tested design calls for
  • FlashingCounterflashing, reglet, curb, and wall flashings to finish the job
For your submittal

What to send us

  • Building height and location
  • Design wind pressure or wind speed and exposure from the drawings
  • Roof system — TPO, PVC, EPDM, mod bit, built-up
  • Wall or fascia dimensions and nailer details
  • Linear footage, corners, and color
  • Whether the job is FM-insured

What you get back

A price on the edge metal, cleats, and accessories, built to a tested detail that meets the job's wind pressure — plus the documentation your GC or inspector will ask for.

Compliance depends on installing the full system as tested: same profile, gauge, cleat, fasteners, and spacing.

How a custom order works

Sketch to finished metal.

  1. Send it over

A drawing, field measurements, a photo, or the piece itself. Rough is fine.

  2. We confirm

We check dimensions, profile, color, and gauge with you before anything gets cut.

  3. We build it

Cut and bent in our Sherman shop from the same coil as your roof panels.

  4. Get it to the job

Pick it up in Sherman, or ask us about delivery to your job site.

Questions

Common questions.

What is ES-1 edge metal?

ES-1 refers to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1, the test standard for edge systems on low-slope roofs. It tests whether the edge metal, cleat, and fasteners hold against the wind pressure the building is designed for. Edge metal is called ES-1 compliant when it is built and installed to a design that passed that testing.

When is ES-1 required?

The International Building Code requires edge securement on low-slope roofs (generally under 2:12) to be designed and tested to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1, with gutters excluded. Check with the project's designer or local building department for your job's code edition and any local amendments.

What are the RE-1, RE-2, and RE-3 tests?

They are the three pull tests in ES-1. RE-1 tests how well the edge holds the roof membrane. RE-2 pulls outward on the face of fascia and coping. RE-3 pulls upward on the top of coping. Which tests apply depends on the type of edge.

Is shop-fabricated edge metal ES-1 compliant?

It can be, if it is fabricated and installed to match a tested design — the same profile, gauge, cleat, and fastener spacing. Change any of those and the test no longer applies. Tell us the design wind pressure and we'll match the edge to a tested detail and send the documentation with your quote.

Is ES-1 the same as FM Approved?

No. ES-1 is a test standard. FM Approved is a separate certification program that FM Global-insured buildings may require. If your job is FM-insured, tell us up front so we can confirm what the insurer requires.

Why is the cleat important?

On fascia and coping, a continuous cleat holds the bottom edge of the face and keeps wind from peeling the metal back. The cleat is often a heavier gauge than the cover, and its gauge and fastening are part of the tested design.

Need something custom?

Send us the edge detail.

Coping, fascia, gravel stop, or drip edge — we'll match it to the job's wind design and price it.
